The
Voigtländer Brillant were indeed are very long lived series of TLR's
that were introduced in 1932, and the last Brillant came in 1950. With a
production span of 18 years, they came in many versions and variations,
so a Brillant is not just a Brillant. The forst model were in fact more
a simple boxcamera than what we understand as a TLR. They were fix focus
types (no focusing), and had a solid glass prism in stead of ground
glass, which on the other hand gives a much brigther view. The Brillant
in my collection are a transition type between type 1 and 2 being a
non-focusing version with 3 step zone focus settings: Portrait, Group
and Landscape, and with the Anastigmat Voigtar 1:6,3 75 mm lens. Oh yes,
it requires some light !. The body is of metal, and later versions from
around 1938 had bakelite bodies, other lenses (Skopars, Heliars etc.),
shutters and the typical Voigtländer accessory compartment for filters
etc. and also normal geared focusing. There are no double exposure
prevention, but a big visible manual reset framecounter. Being a
so simple 6 x 6 medium format camera, it is still useable today, and
often the simple shutter works just fine even today. Of course the
Brillant have its natural limitations, but if you are a freak like me
theres no reason why you shouldn't be able to make some interesting
shots with this old Lady. |
