Eumig
Elektrizitäts- und Metallwaren Industrie Gesellschaft GmbH
Wien - Austria

The Eumig company was founded in 1919 in Vienna, Austria and is widely known for its productuion of radios and high quality movie cameras and film projectors. The production facilities in Vienna was complete detroyed by an airraid in 1945, but most of the machinery had already been moved to a second plant in Micheldorf. In 1951 Eumig for the first time introduced the 6 x 6 film camera Eumigetta I, which was subsequently followed by the Eumigetta II in 1953. Production of the Eumigetta's seized in 1954, and no film cameras was ever to be manufactured by the Eumig Company again. The Eumigetta's are very simple medium format cameras, but if you are in doubt whether they are capable of producing stunning pictures, please visit Andreas Wolkerstorfer

Andreas Wolkerstorfer > Eumigetta I

I don't know if it's just a myth, but somebody told me, that the "Eumigetta project" initially was launched in order to be able to offer work for war veterans that had been physically disabled during the 2. world war, but who in spite of these disabilities were capable of carrying out various limited and/or specialized work processes. Oh well, if it's just a myth, it's a beautiful one....

Eumigetta I  1951 VF
Format:  6 x 6 on 120 rollfilm
Optics:

Eumar 1:5,6  80mm retractable tubus
Shutter:  Simple M (probably 1/50 sec ?). + B

The Eumigetta I is simply wonderful. It is almost one massive block of die cast metal, and except for the plastic fingergrip ring on the lens, this is an all metal camera, finished with polished edges and the extremely rugged Eumig silky laquer. The latch for the  back is made of hardened spring steel just as the clamps that holds the wide strap lugs. The strap lugs on the left side actually works as the handle when opening the back. The viewfinder is simple but big and bright.The red film inspection window on the back is cleverly covered by a spring controlled cover that snaps back to closed position automatically. This camera feels like have been built to last forever !. If you come across one of these gems, BUY IT !

Eumigetta II  1953 VF
Format:  6 x 6 on 120 rollfilm
Optics:

Eumar 1:4  80mm retractable tubus
Shutter:  B +  1/25 => 1/200 sec

The Eumigetta II is, for better and worse, all together a complete different design than the Eumigetta I. The body finish is still the very nice silky laquer. but both the top cover and the bottom plate are made of grey painted iron plate. The viewfinder is smaller than on the first version, and allthough it now offers a hinged back, the wide strap lugs have been replaced with those annoying button lugs. The shutter is however better, and operates up to 1/200 sec. and a depth-of-field table has been added on the back. Please note the film inspection window, which are identical with the one on Eumigetta I. The Eumigetta II also came in a bright red finish which are very rare these days. In spite of the improved shutter the Eumigetta II is not at all as nice as the model I, which I without any doubts prefer

Eumig UC 35  Ultra Compact VF
Format:  24 x 36 on 35mm rollfilm
Optics:

Eumig 1:5,6  38mm retractable/folding
Shutter:  1/125 => 1/250 sec.
Serial no.: 656434

This is one strange camera. To be quite honest I don't know anything for sure as to who manufactured this camera for Eumig, but judging by the "Passed" sticker is must be an Asian manufacturer, and i'm sure that this camera is totally identical with the 1980's Petri CF-35 ultra compact which in turn could be a rebadged Cosina. I have only encountered this camera very few times, which I guess makes it quite rare but thats about the most prominent quality about this camera that I can mention. Basically it's a (very !) cheap all-plastic fixed focus camera with 2 "barn doors" and a 1:5,6 lens and only 2 shuttersettings to choose from; 1/125 at 100 asa setting or 1/250 sec at a 400 asa setting. Thats it. Focusing are zone-focusing by a slider on the top of the body, and the flash are activated by moving the hinged flash to its forward position. Seriously I can't classify this camera as nothing more than a (rare ?) novelty, and I think You'de be better off with a disposable camera. The basic ideas behind the design could have been brought so much better to life, but as it is it simply just feels like a cheap give-away. Shame on you Eumig and hmm Petri......
