The Panta is a quite rare and
seldom seen camera made by Dr. Rodehüser when the factory was moved from
Hessen to Bergkamen. Only a limited quantity were produced over a very short
production period, and my guess is that the production costs were too high
in comparison with the typical retail marketprice for a camera of this type. I have
seen several different descriptions of the filmtype and format, but my Panta
is definately a 6 x 6 format for 120 rollfilm. It is a heavy and solid
tubus-type camera, and both the finish and build quality are superb. The
body and the hinged back are beautifully fitted and precisely joint together,
and by lifting the rewind knob, the back covers open as was it a massive
banksafe door. Please also enjoy the large and informative exposure
time plaque rivetted on the back cover. Some consideration have also been put into the design and please note the
curved, rounded edges on the body. The Steiner lens is a rare medium quality
lens, but when stopped down it is rather good. All in all the Panta is
a pleasant experience; a somewhat simple modest middleclass lady with good manners,
some finesse and
rather good taste ;-).
