Vitoret

The Voigtländer Vitoret series were a range of consumer level inexpensive cameras that were produced from around 1961 to around 1970. It is estimated than more than 700.000 Vitorets were produced in total. The last post-1967 series of the Vitoret had square edged bodies and the range comprised of 5 different models. The pre-1967 series all had the rounded body similar to the Vito range as the Vitoret DR shown below.

What made the Vitoret series more inexpensive than the f.e. Vito's were of course the choice of lenses and shutters and to some extend a more simple internal design. Having said that, some Vioret models are often still useable and capable of providing good results for very little money indeed.

Voigtländer Vitoret DR (1964) RF
Serial no.: 391439
Format:
  24 x 36 on 35 mm film (135)
Optics:
 Color-Lanthar 1:2,8  50mm
Shutter:  Prontor 300 B + 1/30 - 1/60 - 1/125 - 1/300 sec.
Misc.: Rapid wind lever, Uncoupled Bewi lightmeter, coupled rangefinder

This 1964 Vitoret DR is in excellent condition, and for some unexplainable reason the Bewi lightmeter also still works !. It's slightly lighter than the Vito's, and in stead of the "pop-up" rewind knob and coupled reqind release, the Vitoret has got an ordinary rewind knob with crank handle, and a separate rewind release button on the top cover. The uncoupled Bewi match needle lightmeter are easy to use, and the read-outs are in f-stops and shutter speeds. No EV-values !. There are no slow speedsettings below 1/30 and no faster than 1/300 sec. and thats of course one of the reasons why the Vitoret are more inexpensive than f.e. the Vito's. The finish are however excellent, and the viewfinder are big and clear with brigthline and a clear coincident image rangefinder spot in the middle. Personally I would still prefer a Vito to the Vitoret, but you should not pass on a really good deal for a pre-1967 Vitoret if you come across one, and have use for a low cost shooter.
